Ming Te Elementary School was founded in 2007 with the belief that primary education is crucial to shaping a child’s character and enables them to break free from the cycle of poverty. Located in the infamous Golden Triangle at the intersection of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, this area is mainly known for its former status as an opium-producing region and a gateway for human trafficking. Children have unfortunately become byproducts of these long-standing problems. Tens of thousands of children are being lured or coerced into prostitution and other forms of forced labor. Innocent girls and boys, as young as 6 years old, are being sold into brothels. At Ming Te, we strive to provide a safe and caring environment for these underprivileged children with the hope that education can pave the way to a brighter future and give them access to further opportunities by broadening their horizons. Our enrollment has grown exponentially since the school was founded and as of 2017, we are providing for over 150 students.
